Writer
Damian Barr and James Ley (adapted from the memoir by Damian Barr)
World-premiere stage adaptation of Damian Barr’s Sunday Times Memoir of the Year, Maggie & Me - a darkly witty account of growing up gay in Thatcher’s Britain. Co-adapted by Barr and Scottish playwright James Ley and directed by Suba Das for the National Theatre of Scotland, the production follows DB as he opens up his past to write his memoir; his younger self (‘Wee DB’) and Margaret Thatcher both walk back onto the stage of his life. Moving from the closing Ravenscraig steelworks to Carfin Grotto, it is a kaleidoscope of memory built from 80s archive footage, live onstage camera work, and a fiercely queer creative team. Toured to seven venues across Scotland and England in May-June 2024.
